Fallston Area Running (FAR)
Fallston Area Running (FAR) is a running program for area middle and high school students intended to provide athletes a foundation in one of the most critical but most accessible forms of exercise – running. Now in its 6th year, FAR is for all-comers — from seasoned high school runners training for cross-country to newcomers looking to try something new or get in shape for another sport. The coaches will be able to create programs for and teach to all levels. This is a great way to get ready for the fall sports season, increase your speed and endurance, and fall in love with running. Running is a great life skill that strengthens the body and mind, boosts confidence and gets kids outside. We run on Tuesday and Thursday nights and Saturday mornings. We will start on June 20th, 2024 and run through August 3rd.Summer Registration is OPEN: https://go.teamsnap.com/forms/429801 Pease contact Gavin Daly at gavincdaly@hotmail.com with any questions.
Fallston Men’s 35 and Over Basketball
Currently, we play all year around at the Chenowith Center on Wednesday Nights from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Sunday afternoons from 2:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. There are times of the year, however,
when we will not play on one day or the other due to Youth Programs. Each participant is required to have 1 yellow jersey and 1 blue jersey.
Play is a “pick up” format depending on who is attendance on any given day. There are not permanently assigned teams. We have two smaller courts than can accommodate 2 games and 20 players playing simultaneously. Games are played by “1’s” until the first team to reach 10 wins. There is no 3 pt. line on the smaller courts. When attendance allows, we will play on the regulation size court and games are scored by “2’s” and “3’s” until the first team to reach 25 wins. The Defense is responsible for making all foul calls (this is designed to end any arguments, but players are encouraged to be generous with foul calls). Given the great variety of ages playing and their playing ability (we currently have players from age 35 to 68 registered and some players with little or no previous basketball experience, as well as some players with college experience), and to discourage “cherry picking”, the ball must be dribbled over the half court line or else play is stopped and the offending team keeps the ball from the top of the key as a “throw in”. In addition, I or an assistant, will choose the players for each team, on any given night, to try and “match up” age and playing experience. The idea is to create a competitive and enjoyable game for all.
Anyone interested may register and, if additional information is needed, please email Brian Bennett at brianbennett1962@comcast.net.
